TENJIN MATSURI(festival)
One of the most exciting summer events in Osaka is the TenjinMatsuri that is held annually on July 24th and 25th.
It was originally a festival held by the Osaka Temmangu Shrine in which the Shrine’s God travels around its territory to make sure that his parishioners are living peacefully.
Now, the festival is celebrated in a larger scale with 3000 people in various costumes parading through the town, a fleet of more than 100 boats going up and down the river and a beautiful display of fire-works shining brightly in the sky at night.

It has grown to be one of the three major festivals in Japan. With its history of over 1000 years, it is not too much to say that it has a big influence on Osaka’s history and traditional culture.
